Children's Choir

The CUC Youth Choir, consisting of middle and upper school students, performed for the worship service under the direction of Jean Young from 1998-2000. In 2001, at the suggestion of conductor Lisa Meyer, a Children's Choir made up of younger voices, was formed. Ms. Young prepared the choir for performances at Thanksgiving and, together with the adult choir, at Christmas. Under Ms. Young's direction the Children's Choir has participated each year in the choral concerts as part of the Music at CUC Concert Series, performing such diverse repertoire as Christmas and Hanukah songs to pieces from the Wizard of Oz and songs from the Broadway production of Gypsy.

Often, rhythm instruments and movement are incorporated into the performances, giving the children greater creative experiences. Repertoire performed in services is culturally diverse to reflect the philosophy of the Unitarian faith and often coordinates with the theme of the particular service in which they are performing.

Original storybook opera productions are occasionally performed by the Children's Choir for the Children's worship service. Parents and alumni are sometimes invited to join with the ensemble as singers and instrumentalists.
